The Vertiv Avocent ACS8048 Advanced Console Server (ACS8048-DAC-400) is a 48-port, 1U rack-mounted out-of-band management appliance engineered for secure, centralized serial console access to distributed IT and network infrastructure. Built on a Linux-based embedded platform, it aggregates console ports from servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and power devices into a single, policy-controlled management plane. Dual AC power inputs provide hardware-level redundancy to maintain continuous out-of-band access even during primary power source disruptions, making it well suited for production data centers where availability requirements are stringent.

The ACS8048 supports multiple simultaneous authentication frameworks including RADIUS, TACACS+, LDAP, and local authentication, enabling organizations to enforce role-based access control aligned with existing enterprise identity infrastructure. Communication is secured via SSH v2 and TLS/SSL, with all serial traffic tunneled over encrypted sessions. The appliance includes an embedded web-based management interface as well as full CLI access, and supports RESTful API integration for automation and orchestration workflows. IPMI and iDRAC/iLO passthrough capabilities extend out-of-band reach to server baseboard management controllers.
