About the Juniper 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 Transceiver

The Juniper 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 Transceiver (QSFP-100G-SR4-T2) is a high-density, short-reach optical module engineered for 100 Gigabit Ethernet deployments across Juniper's QFX and PTX series platforms. Operating over OM4 multimode fiber using a parallel four-lane architecture, each lane carries 25.78 Gbps using NRZ modulation, aggregating to a 103.125 Gbps line rate. The module conforms to the IEEE 802.3bm 100GBASE-SR4 standard and the QSFP28 MSA form factor, enabling hot-pluggable installation without service interruption.

Designed for structured cabling environments within data center rows and machine rooms, the QSFP-100G-SR4-T2 uses an MPO-12 (MTP) connector interface and supports reaches of up to 70 m on OM3 fiber and up to 100 m on OM4 fiber. The electrical host interface is CAUI-4, providing four 25G electrical lanes toward the switch ASIC. Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) is supported via the I²C management interface, allowing real-time visibility into temperature, supply voltage, transmit optical power, receive optical power, and bias current — all accessible through Juniper's Junos OS.

The transceiver is validated and qualified by Juniper Networks for use in QFX5100, QFX5200, QFX10000, PTX1000, and PTX10000 series platforms, making it a native fit for leaf-spine IP fabrics, high-performance computing interconnects, and 100G server ToR attachment scenarios. Its low power consumption and compact QSFP28 form factor support high port-density deployments, enabling operators to maximize 100G port counts in both top-of-rack and aggregation switching roles.
