About the Fortinet FortiSwitch 448E-FPOE Managed Layer 2/3 PoE Switch
The FortiSwitch 448E-FPOE is a 1U 48-port managed access-layer switch designed to operate as a Security Fabric-integrated access switch, managed directly through a FortiGate firewall via the FortiLink protocol. In FortiLink mode, the switch inherits firewall policy enforcement, VLAN segmentation, and 802.1X NAC policies pushed from FortiGate/FortiManager, eliminating the need for separate switch management tooling in Fortinet-centric environments.
All 48 RJ45 ports deliver 802.3at PoE+ with a total PoE budget of 740 W, sufficient to power high-density deployments of FortiAP wireless access points, IP phones, IoT sensors, and IP cameras without external PoE injectors. Four 10 GbE SFP+ uplink ports provide high-bandwidth aggregation to a distribution switch or directly to a FortiGate uplink, supporting stacking or LAG (802.3ad) for redundancy.
The 448E-FPOE supports standard enterprise L2/L3 features including RSTP/MSTP, VLAN (802.1Q), QoS (802.1p/DSCP), IGMP snooping, and static routing. When operating outside FortiLink mode, it can be managed via standalone GUI, CLI, or SNMP — making it compatible with non-Fortinet environments as well. Automatic PoE device detection and per-port power scheduling add operational efficiency for large deployments.
