About the Aruba AP-655 Wi-Fi 6E Access Point

The Aruba AP-655 is a tri-radio Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) access point engineered for high-density enterprise environments requiring maximum throughput and spectrum capacity. It operates across all three radio bands simultaneously — 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and the newly available 6 GHz band — enabling organizations to offload traffic onto the less congested 6 GHz spectrum while maintaining backward compatibility with legacy Wi-Fi 4 and Wi-Fi 5 clients. The 6 GHz radio supports up to 4x4 MIMO with 160 MHz channel width, delivering aggregate radio throughput figures suitable for bandwidth-intensive workloads including 4K/8K video streaming, high-density collaboration, and latency-sensitive IoT applications.

Built on Aruba's OFDMA and MU-MIMO architecture, the AP-655 leverages target wake time (TWT) for improved power efficiency with IoT and mobile endpoints, alongside BSS coloring to reduce co-channel interference in dense deployments. An integrated Bluetooth 5 and 802.15.4 (Zigbee) radio supports IoT device onboarding, location services, and asset tracking use cases without requiring a separate overlay network. The AP-655 is managed through Aruba Central (cloud-native AI-driven platform) or on-premises via Aruba Mobility Controllers, fitting seamlessly into both greenfield cloud-managed deployments and established controller-based architectures.

The AP-655 ships with a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet uplink port and a secondary 1 Gigabit Ethernet port, with support for 802.3at/bt PoE to simplify cabling infrastructure. Its industrial-grade chassis is rated for ceiling and wall mounting across corporate campuses, healthcare facilities, higher education, and high-density hospitality venues. The integrated Aruba Beacon and sensor framework enables additional services such as Aruba AirMatch for automated RF optimization and Aruba AIOps for proactive anomaly detection across the wireless network.

Ideal for

  • High-density lecture halls and auditoriums where hundreds of concurrent Wi-Fi 6/6E clients require reliable throughput and low latency across all three radio bands
  • Healthcare campuses running clinical mobility workloads, real-time location services (RTLS) for asset tracking, and IoT medical device connectivity over a unified access layer
  • Corporate open-plan offices transitioning to a cloud-managed wireless infrastructure with AI-driven RF optimization via Aruba Central and AIOps
  • Higher education dormitory and classroom buildings requiring simultaneous support for legacy devices on 2.4/5 GHz and next-generation Wi-Fi 6E clients on 6 GHz
  • Hospitality and convention center environments where high client counts, streaming video, and event-scale density demand 6 GHz spectrum to eliminate congestion
  • Logistics and manufacturing facilities deploying mixed IoT sensor networks alongside employee mobile devices, leveraging the integrated 802.15.4 and Bluetooth 5 radio for device onboarding and asset visibility
