The Vertiv Liebert RDU501 Intelligent Monitoring Unit is an edge-class gateway appliance engineered to centralize environmental and power monitoring across distributed IT facilities, branch offices, colocation spaces, and remote edge deployments. Built on a hardened embedded platform, the RDU501 aggregates data from a broad ecosystem of Vertiv and third-party sensors—including temperature, humidity, airflow, leak detection, smoke, door contact, and power monitoring devices—through a combination of wired and wireless sensor buses. Its onboard processing capability enables local alarming, threshold-based logic, and autonomous responses without dependency on a central management server, making it highly resilient for edge scenarios where WAN connectivity may be intermittent.

The RDU501 features a multi-protocol architecture supporting SNMP v1/v2c/v3, Modbus RTU/TCP, BACnet, and RESTful API endpoints, ensuring seamless integration with leading DCIM platforms, building management systems, and cloud-based monitoring services including Vertiv's own cloud portal. The unit supports secure TLS-encrypted communication channels and role-based access control to meet enterprise cybersecurity requirements. A local web-based graphical interface provides at-a-glance dashboards, sensor mapping, and alarm management without requiring external software, while LDAP and RADIUS integration enables centralized identity management.
