The Vertiv Avocent ACS8048 is a high-density 48-port serial console server designed for centralized out-of-band management of network infrastructure at enterprise and data center scale. Built on a hardened Linux-based platform, the ACS8048 provides secure, always-available access to the console ports of routers, switches, servers, firewalls, and other serial-enabled devices — independent of the production network. The dual AC power supply configuration (model ACS8048DAC-404) ensures continuous availability through redundant power inputs, making it suitable for environments where uptime is non-negotiable.

The unit supports simultaneous multi-user access and offers comprehensive security features including role-based access control, SSH v2 encryption, RADIUS, TACACS+, and LDAP/Active Directory integration for centralized authentication. Each of the 48 RJ-45 serial ports supports configurable baud rates and can be individually managed, monitored, or scripted. A dedicated out-of-band Ethernet management port isolates management traffic from the production network, while the dual Gigabit Ethernet data ports support network bonding and failover topologies.
