About the NVIDIA Mellanox 100GbE QSFP28 DAC Cable 2m

The NVIDIA Mellanox MCP1600-C002 is a 100GbE passive copper Direct Attach Cable (DAC) measuring 2 metres in length, terminated at both ends with QSFP28 connectors. Operating as a passive twinaxial assembly, the cable requires no active signal conditioning circuitry, drawing negligible power from the host port and eliminating the thermal and reliability concerns associated with active components. The QSFP28 form factor carries four 25 Gbps NRZ electrical lanes in each direction, aggregating to 100 Gbps full-duplex throughput in compliance with the IEEE 802.3bj and 100GBASE-CR4 standards.

Designed for high-density rack and row-level interconnects, the MCP1600-C002 is optimised for use with NVIDIA ConnectX-4, ConnectX-5, and ConnectX-6 series network adapters, as well as compatible 100G Ethernet switches in the Spectrum product line. The cable assembly integrates digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM/DOM) data accessible via the QSFP28 management interface, allowing network operations teams to inspect real-time signal integrity metrics without disrupting live traffic. The passive copper construction makes the cable fully interoperable with any IEEE 802.3bj-compliant 100GBASE-CR4 port.

As a passive DAC, the MCP1600-C002 is best suited for intra-rack and adjacent-rack connections where reach does not exceed two metres and power efficiency is a priority.
