About the NEC SIGMABLADE M-Series Blade Server Chassis

The NEC SIGMABLADE M-Series is NEC's flagship blade server architecture, providing a 10U chassis capable of housing up to 10 full-height or 20 half-height blade server modules. The system integrates a shared mid-plane for power and cooling, high-speed internal switch fabrics (supporting 10GbE, 40GbE, and 16Gb/32Gb Fibre Channel interconnects), and redundant management modules into a single cohesive infrastructure unit. The design philosophy reduces cabling complexity by consolidating I/O at the chassis level through integrated switch blades.

Each blade module supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors with independent memory, storage, and I/O resources, enabling each blade to run as a fully autonomous server while sharing chassis-level resources such as power distribution, cooling fans, and network uplinks. Hot-swap blade insertion and removal with live migration support (via integrated hypervisor management) enables zero-downtime maintenance. The chassis consumes significantly less power per compute unit than equivalent rack servers due to shared power supply and cooling infrastructure.

NEC ESMPRO Blade Management Console provides unified monitoring of all blade modules, switch blades, power supplies, and fans from a single pane of glass. The SIGMABLADE platform integrates natively with NEC's server virtualization software, NEC WebSAM, and third-party management platforms including VMware vCenter, Microsoft SCVMM, and Ansible for infrastructure-as-code deployments.
