The NEC Express5800/A2040d is a 2U four-node high-density server optimized for scale-out workloads requiring maximum server density at minimum rack footprint and power cost. Each of the four independent compute nodes within the 2U chassis houses dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, independent DDR4 memory, NVMe/SATA storage, and PCIe expansion, sharing only the chassis enclosure, redundant power supplies, and cooling infrastructure. This architecture provides four fully isolated compute environments in 2U versus the 8U that four standard rack servers would require.

The A2040d is particularly suited for Hadoop/Spark analytics clusters, OpenStack compute hypervisors, Kubernetes worker pools, and any workload where large numbers of independent nodes are required. Each node supports independent OS installations and management via ESMPRO, enabling diverse multi-tenant configurations within a single physical enclosure.
