About the Extreme Networks ExtremeSwitching 9920-32C

The ExtremeSwitching 9920-32C is Extreme's highest-capacity data center and cloud core switch, providing 32 x 400G QSFP-DD ports with breakout support to 128 x 100G or 256 x 50G, yielding a switching capacity of 25.6 Tbps. Powered by Broadcom's Tomahawk 4 ASIC, the 9920-32C delivers deterministic ultra-low latency (sub-700 nanoseconds) at full line rate, making it suitable for latency-sensitive workloads including financial trading infrastructure, HPC cluster interconnects, and AI/ML GPU cluster networking.

The 9920-32C runs ExtremeXOS and optionally supports disaggregated open networking OS deployment via SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud), providing enterprises and service providers with flexibility in their control plane and network automation stack. The switch supports the complete EVPN/VXLAN fabric stack, BGP-EVPN multi-homing, ECMP (up to 128 paths), and SR-MPLS/SRv6 segment routing—enabling multi-vendor interoperable data center fabrics. Hardware-based INT telemetry and gNMI streaming are natively supported.

The 9920-32C supports ISSU for software upgrades without traffic impact, dual redundant hot-swappable AC/HVDC power supplies, and N+1 fan modules with front-to-back or back-to-front airflow. Its deep buffer architecture (256 MB shared) absorbs microburst traffic common in storage replication and big data analytics workflows. ExtremeCloud IQ integration provides lifecycle management, configuration compliance, and AI-driven capacity planning for data center teams.

Ideal for

  • Hyperscale enterprise data center spine switching in EVPN/VXLAN fabrics
  • AI/ML GPU cluster high-speed interconnect fabric
  • Financial services ultra-low-latency trading infrastructure
  • HPC interconnect for research and scientific computing clusters
  • Service provider cloud POP and edge data center core
  • Colocation facility high-density 400G customer interconnect
