About the Extreme Networks SLX 9150-48Y
The Extreme Networks SLX 9150-48Y is a high-density top-of-rack (ToR) leaf switch purpose-built for enterprise data center and cloud networking environments. Formerly part of the Brocade SLX portfolio (now fully integrated into Extreme's product line), it provides 48 x 25G SFP28 server-facing ports and 6 x 100G QSFP28 uplinks, delivering 2.88 Tbps of non-blocking switching capacity. The SLX 9150-48Y runs Extreme's SLX-OS, a purpose-built data center NOS optimized for EVPN/VXLAN, BGP, and automated fabric provisioning.
The SLX 9150-48Y natively supports IP Clos (leaf-spine) fabric architectures with BGP-EVPN underlay and overlay automation. Its IP Fabric automation suite enables zero-touch fabric bring-up where underlay BGP sessions, VTEP configurations, and overlay policies are automatically instantiated when a new leaf is added to the fabric. The switch supports multi-tenancy through hardware VRFs (up to 1,024) and VXLAN tenant networks (up to 16,000 VNIs), making it ideal for highly segmented enterprise IT and OT environments.
The SLX 9150-48Y supports advanced data center features including VXLAN routing (symmetric and asymmetric IRB), EVPN multi-homing (ESI-LAG), and MPLS LDP for seamless integration with existing MPLS WANs. Hardware-based BFD enables sub-second failure detection and convergence. The switch is managed through Extreme's Network Director or ExtremeCloud IQ for data center, with full REST API and Ansible/Terraform playbook support for infrastructure-as-code deployments.
