Built on Aten's enterprise KVM-over-IP architecture, it supports simultaneous access by one local and two remote users, enabling concurrent administration without physical presence at the rack. The switch connects to target servers via Cat5e/6 cabling and compatible KVM adapter cables (KVM Adapter Cables sold separately), keeping the server-side footprint minimal while delivering full keyboard, video, and mouse control over standard IP networks.

The KN4140VA incorporates virtual media functionality, allowing administrators to mount ISO images, USB drives, and other removable media on remote target servers directly through the IP session—critical for OS provisioning, firmware updates, and diagnostic operations. Video performance is supported up to 1920×1200 resolution, and the unit provides BIOS-level access to servers regardless of operating system state, ensuring out-of-band management remains available even during crashes or unresponsive OS conditions.
