About the TP-Link Omada OC300 Hardware Controller
The TP-Link Omada OC300 is a purpose-built hardware appliance that serves as the on-premises management controller for the entire Omada SDN ecosystem, including Omada EAP access points, JetStream managed switches, and Omada routers/gateways. Unlike the software controller which requires a separate server or VM, the OC300 is a self-contained plug-and-play appliance that requires no licensing fees and manages up to 500 Omada devices simultaneously—making it appropriate for medium-to-large enterprise deployments with multiple sites.
The OC300 provides a centralized management plane for SSID configuration, RF optimization, VLAN policy enforcement, firmware updates, and real-time client monitoring across all managed devices. It supports multi-site management, enabling an IT team to oversee the Omada networks of multiple branch offices, campuses, or retail locations from a single controller instance. Role-based access control (RBAC) allows delegation of management responsibilities to site-level administrators without granting global access.
The appliance runs a hardened embedded Linux OS on dedicated hardware, ensuring predictable performance independent of other virtualization workloads. It exposes two Gigabit Ethernet management ports for redundant connectivity and supports automatic backup to local storage or remote SFTP servers. The OC300 integrates with cloud-based Omada management via the Omada Cloud platform, allowing hybrid management models where local control is maintained while cloud visibility is also available.
