SonicWall Cloud Secure Edge (CSE) is a cloud-delivered Security Service Edge (SSE) and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) platform, built on technology acquired from Banyan Security. The solution enforces continuous, identity-centric access controls for users connecting to private applications, SaaS workloads, and internet resources—regardless of device location or network. CSE replaces legacy VPN architectures with a clientless or lightweight-agent model that authenticates every session against device trust signals, user identity, and contextual policy before granting least-privilege access to specific resources rather than broad network segments.

The platform is delivered entirely from SonicWall's cloud infrastructure, eliminating on-premises hardware dependencies for remote access enforcement. Administrators manage policy through a unified cloud console that integrates with enterprise identity providers (IdP) via SAML 2.0 and OIDC, and with endpoint detection platforms to incorporate device posture scoring into access decisions. Connector components deployed in data centers or cloud VPCs establish outbound-only tunnels to the CSE cloud fabric, ensuring corporate resources are never directly exposed to the internet. Traffic inspection, policy evaluation, and session logging all occur inline within the cloud fabric before any connection is completed.

SonicWall CSE is subscription-based, scoped per protected user seat, and is suited for enterprises undergoing VPN modernization, hybrid workforce enablement, or M&A network integration scenarios. The 02-SSC-8800 SKU represents a defined user-tier subscription term, providing access to the full CSE feature set including ZTNA for private applications, Secure Web Gateway (SWG) capabilities, and the ThreatIntel-enriched DNS filtering layer. The platform supports brownfield deployments alongside existing SonicWall firewall estates and operates independently as a standalone SSE solution for organizations standardizing on cloud-native security architecture.
