NetApp FAS70 Hybrid Storage System

The NetApp FAS70 is a refreshed hybrid-flash storage system within NetApp's FAS (Fabric-Attached Storage) product family, engineered to deliver a balanced combination of flash performance and high-capacity spinning disk storage. Built on the ONTAP operating system, the FAS70 provides unified block and file protocol support, enabling enterprises to consolidate diverse workloads onto a single, scalable platform. Its hybrid architecture is specifically optimised for environments where cost-effective capacity at scale takes precedence over all-flash latency requirements, while still leveraging flash for caching and hot-data acceleration.

The FAS70 supports NetApp's comprehensive data management capabilities through ONTAP, including inline data deduplication, compression, compaction, and thin provisioning, all of which contribute to efficient capacity utilisation across large storage pools. The system integrates with NetApp's SnapMirror replication technology for data protection and disaster recovery, and supports NetApp Snapshot copies for near-instantaneous local backup and recovery. High availability is delivered through active-active controller failover within each HA pair, ensuring continuous data access in the event of a controller failure.

Targeted at backup repositories, secondary storage tiers, compliance and archive workloads, and large-capacity NAS deployments, the FAS70 is positioned as the successor to previous-generation FAS systems in NetApp's hybrid portfolio. It is designed to integrate seamlessly into existing NetApp environments and supports connection to NetApp StorageGRID object storage for tiered data lifecycle management. The platform scales out to support growing data requirements and is compatible with NetApp's cloud integration features, including FabricPool for automated tiering of cold data to cloud object stores.
