Microsoft Windows Server 2025 CAL (User CAL)

Microsoft Windows Server 2025 User CAL (R18-06710) is a Client Access License that grants a single named user the legal right to access Windows Server 2025 services across an unlimited number of devices within the licensed organization's infrastructure. Introduced with the general availability of Windows Server 2025 in November 2024, this license model is the preferred mechanism for environments where individual users require access from multiple endpoints—including shared workstations, remote desktops, mobile devices, and virtual desktop sessions—making per-user tracking more administratively efficient than per-device alternatives.

Windows Server 2025 introduces significant platform advancements that underpin the value of this CAL, including enhanced Active Directory functionality, SMB over QUIC for secure file access without VPN, hotpatching support for reduced reboot cycles, and improved Hyper-V and storage capabilities.
