The Cisco QSFP-100G-DR-S is a single-lambda 100 Gigabit Ethernet transceiver designed for cost-effective, high-density datacenter interconnect deployments. Operating over single-mode fiber at 1295 nm, it delivers 100 Gbps line-rate performance across distances up to 500 meters, making it ideal for intra-datacenter fabric expansion without the complexity or latency penalties of longer-reach optics.

This DR (Datacenter Reach) class transceiver implements the QSFP28/QSFP-DD form factor, enabling seamless integration into existing modular line cards and switch architectures. The single-wavelength design reduces chromatic dispersion concerns over the 500 m link budget while maintaining interoperability with standards-compliant QSFP cage infrastructure.

Launched in 2020-Q2, the QSFP-100G-DR-S addresses the operational economics of high-volume east-west traffic patterns in spine-leaf topologies, multi-pod fabrics, and distributed datacenter architectures where per-port optics cost and power envelope are critical constraints.
